Postdoctoral Researcher: Polymer Nanocomposite (PNC) Development at CSIR, South Africa

The CSIR/Department of Science and Technology National Centre for Nano-structured Materials is a platform for the implementation of the South African National Nanotechnology Strategy. The centre undertakes innovative research on nano-structured materials and has an extensive research network with other local and international research organisations. It has a strong focus on human capital development, makes a significant contribution to the creation and dissemination of new scientific knowledge and collaborates closely with industry to help ensure successful outcomes and impact of the group’s research and development activities. The position is a two-year contract based in Pretoria.

Qualifications, skills and experience: 1· A PhD in applied chemistry; 2· Two to three years’ polymer experience; 3· General understanding of polymers and PNCs; 4· Preparation of samples (rheomixer, sample moulding, etc.); 5· Operation and interpretation experience on XRD, DMA, FTIR and TGA; 6· Communication and presentation skills; · Research and report-writing skills; 7· Skills in managing small projects; 8· Problem-solving, solution-seeking orientation; 9· Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills; 10· A goal-oriented approach; 11· Ability to work independently as well as in a team; 12· Computer literacy; 13· Ability to supervise young researchers.
