Postdoctoral Position in Ecology of Heterotrophic N2-fixing Marine Bacteria at University of Copenhagen, Denmark of Copenhagen, Denmark

A 2-year Post doctoral position in marine microbial ecology is offered at the Marine Biological Section, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The position starts sometime in early spring 2012, dependent on the successful applicant. The position is financed by a larger research grant (Sapere aude) from the Danish Agency for Science Technology and Innovation to Assoc. Prof. Lasse Riemann. The import of nitrogen (N) through biological N2-fixation is essential for plankton productivity in vast areas of the global ocean. In fact, this conversion of N2 gas to ammonium available for growth is fuelling up to 50% of the new production in some regions.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in a discipline of relevance for the research project. The position is open to both Danish and international applicants. Experience with marine microbial ecology and molecular biology, as well as good English language skills, will be a requirement. The main criterion for selection will be the research potential of the applicant.

Scholarship Deadline: January 15th, 2012
