The topic of the PhD research is situated in the area of polymeric materials for application in biosensors and bio-analytical separations, with an emphasis on a number of synthetic organic chemical aspects of the research into molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). In addition to synthesis, there will be attention paid to both a complete characterization of the obtained materials with a variety of analytical techniques as well as the final application of these materials in sensors and separations. In the framework of this project, there will be active collaborations with a multidisciplinary team of research groups both within and outside Hasselt University. Besides research, also a limited contribution in the didactic tasks of the department is expected from the candidate ( assistance in (laboratory) exercises or guidance of internships).
-The candidate is expected to perform research in the area of polymer chemistry for biosensor and bio-analytical applications. -Demonstrated experience in the synthesis of organic molecules and/or polymers -Willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary setting. -A good command of the English language Master in Chemistry (or equivalent). – Final year students are (likewise) encouraged to apply.
