PhD Positions: Cognitive and Molecular Neuroscience at Katholieke University Leuven, Belgium

Several hundred novel candidate bioactive peptides have been discovered using peptidomics analyses. From this collection, a number of peptides will be chosen for behavioural studies based on CNS expression and cellular activity on neural cell lines or cultured primary neurones. After intracerebroventricular administration, mice will be phenotyped by a battery of behavioural tests (SHIRPA). Each positive test will be followed up with more specialised secondary and tertiary behavioural assays. Mechanistic studies using pharmacological dissection and electrophysiological recording in slice preparations will be carried out for peptides with the most interesting behavioural effects.
